Credit Recovery
Credit recovery is for high school students who have failed a course required for graduation and would like to remain on track for graduation and/or to avoid repeating a full-year course the next school year. See requirements below.
From grades 9 through 12
Credit Recovery courses are four weeks (8:00 am-11:00 am)

High school Credit Recovery:
Algebra I (NJSLA testing required)*
Algebra II (NJSLA testing required)*
Geometry (NJSLA testing required)*
Students in Credit Recovery need a passing grade to advance for the next academic year.
NJSLA testing is required to earn credit.
In order to advance for the next academic year:
Students must attain a passing grade (65) to advance for the next academic year.
Students must meet the attendance requirements.
Credit Recovery and Advancement students are permitted to miss one day of school or accrue 30 minutes of tardies before credit is lost.
Students who exceed these limitations will not receive credit for the course or a tuition refund.
Student must meet the guidelines set forth in the student handbook.
Out of district students must refer to their own district guidelines for credit recovery.
All credit recovery courses in Algebra I, Geometry and Algebra II must sit for the summer administration of NJSLA per NJDOE requirements. If a student is unavailable to sit for NJSLA, no credit will be awarded for the course and the student cannot advance to the next course level. Summer NJSLA administration will be administered in the last week of the program (subject to change due to NJDOE).
NJSLA - Math Testing
*All courses for advancement and credit recovery in Algebra I, Geometry and Algebra II (all levels) must sit for the summer administration of NJSLA-Math per NJDOE requirements. If a student is unavailable to sit for NJSLA-Math, no credit will be awarded for the course and the student cannot receive advancement or recovery for the course they are enrolled in. Summer NJSLA administration will be administered in the last week of the program (subject to change due to NJDOE).
Student Cost for Credit Recovery courses:
Tuition rate 2025: $450 per session *
* Financial assistance is available. Families must be classified by their home resident district for receiving free or reduced meals. Documentation may be requested.
Non-refundable registration $50 fee per student is included in price.
Multi-student discount available for Leonia and Edgewater residents.
Families registering more than one student are eligible for a discount:
2 Students: 10% discount will be applied to the total SMILE cost.
3 Students: 15% discount will be applied to the total SMILE cost.
*Discount will be adjusted if cancelation occurs.
Attendance & Tardy Policy
Remedial and New Credit students are permitted to miss one day of school or accrue 30 minutes of tardies before credit is lost. Students who exceed these limitations will not receive a tuition refund.
All classes are subject to adequate enrollment.
Before registering:
You must speak to your counselor or Mathematics Supervisor about which course to take.
Payment and cancellations:
Seating is not confirmed until payment is made for tuition in full.
Payments must be made before or on the day the program begins. Students will not be awarded credit and/or be permitted to participate until payment has been made.
Students will not earn credit for Recovery or Advancement and/or may not be allowed to join the program if payment is not received. Each day missed will count as an absence.
Refunds:
Cancellations made before the commencement of the program will be eligible for a full tuition refund, with the deduction of a $50 registration fee.
Cancellations made on the first day of the program will be subject to a partial tuition reimbursement, amounting to half of the tuition fee, after deducting the $50 registration fee.
No reimbursements will be provided for cancellations made after the completion of the first day of the program.
Students enrolled in the LMS and LHS with outstanding balances will not receive credit for the program. Additionally, a fine equivalent to the outstanding tuition amount will be placed in Genesis.
Out-of-district students with outstanding balances will not be permitted to participate in the program, and credit will not be awarded until outstanding balances are settled.
